My life began in fine arts, journeyed to Broadway, political theater, circus, management, film and television. My work reflects my appetite for life and my wealth of experiences.
At the age of six, under the tutelage of my godfather, painter Bill Larkin, I had my first exhibition of oils. Art school in Lenox, MA, led to painting sets and backdrops in high school. I received a BA in both painting and theatrical design from Bennington College in Vermont and apprenticed on Broadway for two years. All this time I toyed with photography and ceramics. |
In the 60's, like many of the young talented avant garde, I answered San Francisco's call, and became designer-in-residence for the San Francisco Mime Troupe. During six years with the Troupe,I learned to juggle - metaphorically and literally. Juggling motherhood, career and personal passions, I co-founded The Pickle Family Circus. My children, Gypsy and Lorenzo, performed by my side. I spent eighteen years managing the company, performing, and designing the costumes, masks, props and backdrops. |
During this period I also designed award-winning sets and costumes for other Bay Area theatrical companies, including Berkeley Repertory Theater, the Marin Theater Company, Del'Arte Players and the Eureka Theatre Company. I have been a model maker, upholsterer, set decorator and wardrobe worker on numerous films, including Popeye, Patch Adams, Bicentennial Man, Sphere and Matrix II and III. I was on the staff of the Wardrobe Department of Nash Bridges for five years. I have been a ceramic sculptor since 1980 and a photographer since 1965. |
